F 35 JPO announces transition from ALIS to ODIN

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The F‑35 Joint Program Office (JPO) and the Maintenance Systems Program Management Office (MXS PMO) has successfully achieved ODIN Inflection Point criteria, the long‑standing program to transition from the legacy Autonomic Logistics Information System (ALIS) to the modernized Operational Data Integrated Network (ODIN). This achievement marks the culmination of a multi‑year effort with the delivery of the first release of the ODIN operating software to support the F-35 fleet and a more secure, efficient and resilient information system that supports global F‑35 sustainment operations.

The transition to ODIN represents a comprehensive modernization of the digital backbone that enables maintainers, operators and logisticians to effectively support the world’s largest and most advanced fighter aircraft fleet. The operating software delivery and validation by the operational test squadron satisfies the final major milestone for meeting the goals for the initiation of moving from ALIS to ODIN. New ODIN hardware, offering significantly higher processing speeds and computational power, has replaced legacy ALIS hardware across the fleet. These deliveries, along with updates to our data operations and increasing our cyber posture, clear the path to begin sunsetting the remaining legacy ALIS elements.

The JPO, working in close coordination with the U.S. Services, international and industry partners, executed a phased approach to replace legacy ALIS components, streamline data workflows and improve end‑user experience across the enterprise.

“Achieving the ODIN Inflection Point, and commencing the sunset of ALIS, is a major step forward as we continue to modernize the F‑35 sustainment ecosystem,” said Air Force Col. Nick Scotch, F-35 JPO’s Maintenance Systems program manager. “This milestone merges successes across four technical lines of effort and reflects years of dedicated work by our government and industry teammates. These efforts deliver mission outcomes that significantly improve system performance, cybersecurity and maintainability across the entire F‑35 global enterprise, while laying the foundation required to proactively manage ODIN cost, schedule and performance over the system’s lifecycle.”

“This success was enabled by innovative engineering combined with insight of the warfighter community,” Jason Brooks, Lockheed Martin F-35 Maintenance Systems program director said. “Our Maintenance Systems team has worked alongside our government partners, industry suppliers and field maintainers to design, test and field a solution that is faster, more secure and far more user friendly.”

Government sustainment, cyber and IT specialists partnered closely with industry partners throughout development, testing and fielding. Industry contributions included the design and delivery of modernized hardware, architected software solutions, rigorous cybersecurity enhancements and iterative improvements driven by maintainer feedback. The MXS PMO team ensured the system met operational requirements, validated fielding readiness and coordinated deployment across U.S., international partner and foreign military sales locations worldwide.

ODIN’s full operational deployment has several key advantages:

  • Improved Speed and Reliability: A streamlined architecture reduces system latency and accelerates data synchronization across the global fleet.
  • Enhanced Cybersecurity: Updated security features and hardened infrastructure.
  • Reduced Sustainment Burden: Modern hardware and modular software reduce maintenance demands and system complexity, while increasing tech refresh and faster software releases.
  • User‑Driven Design: Updated interfaces and workflows incorporate direct feedback from maintainers, improving usability and decreasing administrative overhead.

ODIN will continue to evolve as part of a long‑term modernization roadmap. Future ODIN releases will further enhance interoperability, data transparency and automation for warfighters and sustainment professionals.

About the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) The F-35 JPO is the Department of War’s focal point for defining, developing, acquiring, sustaining and fielding the F-35 Lightning II. In partnership with international allies and industrial partners, the JPO ensures the delivery of affordable, fifth-generation airpower to the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, international partners and foreign military sales customers. The JPO is dedicated to maximizing the operational readiness, interoperability and lethality of the global F-35 fleet to deter adversaries and secure national and allied defense interests worldwide.
