Health Freedom Groups Sue Governor Brown and Oregon Health Authority

Doctors from across the medical industry have banded together with Health Freedom Defense Fund to fight and stand against government overreach regarding health.

The right to bodily autonomy is the most sacred of human rights and no government official has the power or authority to force an unwanted, unneeded, medical intervention on any person, period.”

— HFDF president Leslie Manookian

SANDPOINT, ID, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Doctors for Freedom and Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF) together with several other named parties sued Governor Kate Brown and the Oregon Health Authority seeking judicial review of the validity of orders mandating experimental, unproven and dangerous COVID-19 shots. (Case No: Free Oregon, Inc. v. Oregon Health Authority (A176977))

Doctors from across the medical industry have banded together with Health Freedom Defense Fund to fight and stand against extreme governmental overreach forced upon our communities through mandatory COVID-19 vaccination. Both groups steadfastly believe the power to freely choose a medical treatment rests solely with the individual.

In addition, both the US Code of Federal Regulations and international treaties such as the Nuremberg Code and the UNESCO Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights recognize that the ethical practice of medicine requires voluntary informed consent.

“The right to bodily autonomy is the most sacred of human rights,” said Health Freedom Defense Fund president Leslie Manookian, “and no government official has the power or authority to force an unwanted, unneeded, medical intervention on any person, period. That some government officials believe it is their right should concern every American.”

Because of Governor Brown’s abuse of emergency powers our patients, medical support staff, and even doctors ourselves are being coerced into taking a risky medication. Taking the COVID-19 vaccine amounts to undergoing a medical procedure with unknown long-term effects.

This overreach violates our constitutional rights as Americans and as Oregonians — rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — and unjustly tramples the basic human right of bodily autonomy.

“In an attempt to coerce universal COVID-19 vaccination, the governor of Oregon is holding hostage our businesses, our professional licenses, in short, our livelihoods — forcing us to choose between complying with a medical treatment or losing our jobs and our ability to provide for our families,” said a spokesperson for Doctors for Freedom

As doctors we have taken an oath to solemnly serve and protect our patients — above all, to do no harm. The individuals in Doctors for Freedom are taking a stand against Governor Brown’s negligent and immoral abuse of power:
• We will not allow the government to override the rights of our patients, our employees, and or ourselves to make individual medical choices.
• We will not allow the government of Oregon to take advantage of the trust we have from individuals in our local communities by making us — as business owners and doctors — enforce this unconstitutional assault on individual freedom.

Our ability to care for and humbly serve our communities is made possible by the trust of the people who seek care at our practices. We will not allow the government of Oregon, or any other entity, to abuse that trust. It is our duty to stand between those who attempt to coerce our patients and staff. It is our duty to protect the rights of those whom we serve.

We, as doctors and leaders of our communities, demand that Governor Brown revoke the mandatory vaccination order and cease and desist the State’s interference in the medical choices of our patients and staff.

Doctors for Freedom is a group of Oregon medical providers that stand for and have taken an oath to protect the people’s individual medical autonomy in the communities we serve.

Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF) seeks to rectify health injustice through education, advocacy and legal challenges to unjust mandates, laws and policies. To read the case documents, read here.

Health Freedom Defense Fund Sues Hailey AGAIN Over Mask Mandate

No government official has the right to deprive citizens of the right to breathe.”

— Leslie Manookian, HFDF President

SANDPOINT, ID, UNITED STATES, September 29, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Health Freedom Defense Fund (HFDF) has once again sued the City of Hailey, Idaho for violating federal law by mandating masks. September 13, 2021, the Hailey city council voted unanimously to re-institute another unlawful mask mandate upon its citizens. HFDF responded by suing Mayor Martha Burke and the City of Hailey on September 26, 2021. (Case No. 1:21-cv-389) While many cities and locales have mandated masks in the US, these mandates violate federal law.

In the US, most masks have been issued under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) and the terms of the EUA granted by FDA clearly state that the product must not be: “labeled in such a manner that would misrepresent the product’s intended use; for example, the labeling must not state or imply that the product is intended for antimicrobial or antiviral protection or related uses or is for use such as infection prevention or reduction”.

Thus, the FDA recognizes masks do nothing to stop the spread of viruses or infectious agents.

Not only does FDA acknowledge masks do not prevent the spread of the virus, the terms of the EUA also require that those using the products be given the right to accept or refuse use of the product. See Link.

Health Freedom Defense Fund and its members have opposed Hailey’s unlawful mask mandates since the first mandate was implemented in July of 2020. Throughout 2021, HFDF sent the city demands to repeal their mask order informing them legal action would come and finally after no action was taken, HFDF sued Mayor Martha Burke and the City of Hailey in May 2021.

The same day the lawsuit was filed, Hailey Mayor Martha Burke issued a new health order removing Hailey’s mask mandate which was followed on May 10th, with a vote by the city council to rescind the mask mandate. Council President Kaz Thea and councilman Sam Linnet voted against repealing and Mayor Martha Burke cast the deciding vote in favor.

The City has twenty days to respond to the filing.

Not only are mask mandates illegal, they are highly unethical. HFDF president Leslie Manookian says, “No government official has the right to deprive citizens of the right to breathe.”

As a factual matter, the Mask Mandate is a human experiment forced on the citizens and Masks Have No Benefit in Reducing or Preventing Infection From SARS-CoV-2. The FDA has determined that the efficacy of face coverings for reducing or preventing infection from SARS-CoV-2 has not been established, and that it would be misleading to state that they are effective in preventing or reducing such infection.
In the EUA authorizing general emergency use of face masks, the FDA stated that it would “would misrepresent the product’s intended use” to state that it “is for use such as infection prevention or reduction”.

Similarly, in its Enforcement Policy for Face Masks and Respirators During the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Public Health Emergency (Revised), the FDA stated in three instances that face masks are not intended to reduce or prevent infection:
The product is not intended for any use that would create an undue risk in light of the public health emergency, for example the labeling does not include uses for antimicrobial or antiviral protection or related uses or uses for infection prevention or reduction or related uses and does not include particulate filtration claims. Id. at 7, repeated twice on page 8.

These references and many more representing the unlawful, unethical and detrimental effects of mask mandates are all documented in the lawsuit against Hailey which may be read here.

No Exit Plan: More Research Urgently Needed For Safe Withdrawal And Recovery From Psychiatric Drugs

Patients should be warned about the risk of withdrawal symptoms before being prescribed antidepressants. Discontinuing the drugs should be done under a physician’s supervision.

More than 15 million Americans have taken antidepressants for at least five years, increasing their risk of severe withdrawal symptoms if they decide to quit taking the drugs.

CCHR continues to advocate for the full disclosure of the risks of serious side effects and withdrawal symptoms from antidepressants so that patients can make fully informed decisions about taking or discontinuing the drugs.

Millions of Americans are prescribed psychiatric drugs, but with no best practices established for discontinuing the drugs, withdrawal symptoms can be severe.

With extended use, [antidepressants] can be notoriously difficult to quit because they can produce a state of physical dependence.”

— Mireille Rizkalla, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Midwestern University

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, September 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — While Congress and government agencies are giving much attention to making treatment more widely available for opioid and methamphetamine addiction, little attention is being paid to the struggle with serious physical and mental withdrawal symptoms many Americans face when attempting to discontinue and recover from taking psychiatric drugs.

Clinical trials on psychotropic drugs have focused on the study subjects taking the drugs, but scant research has been conducted on how to quit taking them.

Researched procedures that become a standard for treatment, known as “best practices,” still have not been established for withdrawing from these mind-altering drugs, though the drugs have been prescribed by psychiatrists and other physicians for decades.

There is urgency to this problem. Consider just antidepressants. In 2020, some 45 million Americans – roughly one in seven – were taking antidepressants, and more of them are taking the drugs longer.

“More than 15 million Americans have taken antidepressants for at least five years, a rate that has almost more than tripled since 2000, according to a New York Times analysis of federal data,” reported Benedict Carey in a 2019 New York Times article on antidepressant withdrawal.

Those who decide to stop because of the drugs’ adverse effects or lack of results will find themselves without a reliable exit strategy and facing the risk of possibly lengthy and severe physical and mental symptoms – even when under the care of a physician. The longer antidepressants were taken and the higher the dose, the more severe and prolonged the withdrawal symptoms are likely to be.

Researchers James Davies, Ph.D., co-founder of the U.K.-based Council for Evidence-based Psychiatry, and John Read, Ph.D., a professor of clinical psychology at the University of East London, who conducted an analysis of 23 earlier peer-reviewed studies, found that “more than half (56 percent) of people who attempt to come off antidepressants experience withdrawal effects,” with nearly half (46 percent) of those experiencing them describing the effects as severe. The study, published in Addictive Behaviors in 2019, also found it is not uncommon for withdrawal symptoms to last up to several months.

Even tapering over a longer period of time does not ensure that no withdrawal symptoms will be experienced. Researchers from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine found what many users have discovered: “Gradual tapering of an SSRI does not completely prevent antidepressant discontinuation syndrome.”

The study, published in March 2020 in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, explained that “with extended use, [antidepressants] can be notoriously difficult to quit because they can produce a state of physical dependence.” Lead author Mireille Rizkalla, Ph.D., added, “these are mind-altering drugs and were never intended as a permanent solution.”

Acknowledging that procedures for safely discontinuing antidepressants are still not available, Rizkalla wrote: “Tapering regimens have not been validated in systematic studies; therefore, recommendations are based on anecdotal opinion as an art more than a science.”

In a major turnaround, the Royal College of Psychiatrists (U.K.) in 2019 admitted for the first time that coming off antidepressants can cause symptoms that are severe and long-lasting and that patients should be warned of this risk before being prescribed the drugs.

An extensive list of antidepressant withdrawal symptoms are now posted on the psychiatric organization’s website:

• dizziness (this is usually mild, but can be so bad that you can’t stand up without help)
• anxiety which comes and goes, sometimes in intense 'surges'
• difficulty in getting to sleep and vivid or frightening dreams
• low mood, feeling unable to be interested in or enjoy things
• a sense of being physically unwell
• rapidly changing moods
• anger
• sleeplessness
• tiredness
• loss of co-ordination
• headache
• the feeling of an electric shock in your arms, legs, or head (those are sometimes called ‘zaps’ and turning your head to the side can make them worse)
• a feeling that things are not real (‘derealization’), or a feeling that you have ‘cotton wool in your head’
• difficulty in concentrating
• suicidal thoughts
• queasiness
• a feeling of inner restlessness and inability to stay still (akathisia)

These withdrawal symptoms can be misdiagnosed as a relapse of the patient’s “mental illness,” resulting in the patient going back on the antidepressant, prescribed a different antidepressant, or given an increased dose – all harmful to a patient who is actually only experiencing the symptoms due to quitting the drug.

This was at the heart of the conclusion of the Davies and Read study: “We recommend that U.K. and U.S.A. guidelines on antidepressant withdrawal be urgently updated as they are clearly at variance with the evidence on the incidence, severity and duration of antidepressant withdrawal, and are probably leading to the widespread misdiagnosing of withdrawal, the consequent lengthening of antidepressant use, much unnecessary antidepressant prescribing and higher rates of antidepressant prescriptions overall. We also recommend that prescribers fully inform patients about the possibility of withdrawal effects.”

Antidepressants may provide a temporary escape from problems, worries, or unpleasant emotions for some patients, but they come with the very real risk of severe side effects and withdrawal symptoms for all patients taking the drugs.

As Ronald Dworkin, M.D., Ph.D., one of many physicians critical of the over-prescribing of antidepressants, said: "Doctors are now medicating unhappiness. Too many people take drugs when they really need to be making changes in their lives."

The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) continues to make consumers aware of the dangers of psychiatric drugs and to advocate for the full disclosure of the risks of serious side effects and withdrawal symptoms from these powerful, mind-altering drugs, so that patients can make fully informed decisions about taking or discontinuing the drugs. CCHR also continues to press government mental health and drug agencies to issue further warnings about the risks of these drugs.

CCHR has long recommended that individuals experiencing depression should get a complete physical exam with lab tests to detect any underlying physical conditions that could be causing the mental symptoms that might otherwise be diagnosed as a “mental disorder.”

WARNING: Anyone wishing to discontinue or change the dose of an antidepressant or other psychiatric drug is cautioned to do so only under the supervision of a physician because of potentially dangerous withdrawal symptoms.

CCHR was co-founded in 1969 by members of the Church of Scientology and the late psychiatrist and humanitarian Thomas Szasz, M.D., recognized by many academics as modern psychiatry’s most authoritative critic, to eradicate abuses and restore human rights and dignity to the field of mental health. Since then, CCHR has helped obtain more than 180 laws that protect mental health patients.

The CCHR National Affairs Office in Washington, DC, has advocated for mental health rights at the state and federal level. The CCHR traveling exhibit, which has toured 441 major cities worldwide and educated over 800,000 people on the history of abusive psychiatric practices up to the present time, has been displayed in Washington, DC, at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Caucus and other locations.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World strives to combat the rising statistics of deaths by opioids laced with fentanyl

The Truth About Drugs Education Package contains practical tools to educate young people about substance abuse.

DEA issues first alert in six years about fake prescription pills containing fentanyl which lead to overdose deaths

We all know that the solution to drug abuse is not a one-size-fits-all. We need to work together as a community.”

— Thalia Ghiglia, Foundation for a Drug-Free World

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, September 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — This week, the Drug Enforcement Administration issued a public safety alert warning Americans of the dangerous increase of fake prescription pills containing fentanyl and methamphetamine. The DEA warned that the United States is seeing a crisis of overdose deaths from fentanyl and is warning the public about this unprecedented danger.

Substance abuse continues to rise across the United States taking its toll in the tens of thousands each year on youth and adults alike. A new report shows drug overdose deaths soared by close to 30% from 2019 to 2020, reaching a high of 93,000 with the illegal opioid fentanyl being the primary driver.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be 50-100 times more powerful than morphine. Just 150 micrograms carries a significant risk of death. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, two milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal, depending on a person’s body size. One kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people. A kilogram is roughly 2.2 pounds.

Just this week Colorado reported that fentanyl deaths have surged, reaching an average of two fatalities per day and 64 deaths per month. For comparison, in 2018 the average number of fentanyl deaths per month in Colorado was nine. In Fairfax County, Virginia, a report surfaced this last week stating that six young adults were found unconscious in an apartment from cocaine overdoses believed to be from a batch of fentanyl-laced cocaine circulating in the region. This report came on the heels of another from Long Island, New York, in August 2021, stating that six people died from ingesting cocaine laced with fentanyl.

A California father lost his college-age daughter in 2019 when she ingested what she thought was an oxycodone pill. It turned out that this was laced with a lethal dosage of fentanyl. She died at her home two days before Christmas at her home. Her father said in an interview that his daughter, "along with hundreds of thousands of other kids and young adults, was fatally poisoned.” He added, “Fentanyl has changed everything. This isn’t marijuana they are dealing. They’re dealing death.”

Struggling to reverse the trend of overdoses and drug abuse, the Mayor of Washington, DC, rolled out a new public education campaign initiative this past June to combat opioid, alcohol and other drug abuses in the city.

Thalia Ghiglia, faith liaison for the Foundation for a Drug Free World (DFW) in Washington, DC, said, “We’re definitely seeing a fentanyl problem here in our city and surrounding states, just like in the rest of the country. Some people don’t know their drug of choice has had fentanyl added to it. Some don’t think they will be the one to go and others seek it out for its high. The most tragic are the kids who think they are taking an Oxy, Xanax or Adderall pill and it turns out to be fentanyl. And just like that, they’re gone.”

“A lot of these deaths are reported on television news, so some are hearing the message, but getting the information of just how deadly fentanyl has become to young people requires a different approach.

“We all know that the solution to drug abuse is not a one-size-fits-all.

“We need to work together as a community. Many feel it’s not their concern or it’s an ‘over there’ problem and it is somebody else’s responsibility. But, in truth, the solution starts in our own homes, with our own children, having meaningful conversations, getting ourselves educated and then making sure our youth are educated as well as others. We should notice what is happening in our communities and do something about it. This way we can reach everybody,” Ms. Ghiglia continued.

Ms. Ghiglia, who has been working with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World since 2007, has spent the last year liaising with prevention advocates, city agencies and others, bringing the truth about drugs to various populations. DFW’s niche is to bring vital drug information to people in a simple clear way through its drug education booklets, public service announcements and as its award winning documentary film on 14 different drugs.

Working with other agencies and organizations in the city, Ms. Ghiglia has been giving drug education lectures virtually to school-age youth, parents, seniors and adults during the pandemic months, with the goal of bringing more understanding about the dangers of various drugs, especially to at-risk neighborhoods.

DFW get its Truth About Drugs message out through its booklets, videos and its award-winning documentary. It is doing its part in the battle against the influx of drugs to save lives and bring the message of hope and help to those in need. We need to reach people with this message before they become addicted.

People need to be reached with the Truth About Drugs before they become addicted. There is only one way this can be done, and that is a full-community effort, shoulder to shoulder, supporting city officials and having them, in turn, support the efforts of those working directly in the city’s hot spots. The message needs to be brought early on, often, and with true information to combat the lies of those who are profiting from drug dissemination.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation sponsored by the Church of Scientology and Scientologists all over the world that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

Through a worldwide network of volunteers, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World has gotten 50 million drug prevention booklets distributed. Tens of thousands of drug awareness events have been held in some 180 countries and the Truth About Drugs public service announcements have been aired on more than 500 television stations. These materials and activities have helped people around the world learn about the destructiveness of drugs so individuals can make their own informed decision not to use them.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World offers all its educational materials for free. Materials can be ordered at www.drugfreeworld.org. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is an international organization with materials in 22 languages.
